ESOL 'Conservation'

What is a Conservation?

Conservation Week is a chance to bring everyone together to do something, big or small to create change. Every year thousands of New Zealanders come together or people around their country get together for a activity to do together. This year conversation week is on 14-22 of September in 2019.

I think that conservation week is important for everyone because we all get together like a family and do activity's for a week and a day. They also get to know each other and became closer and know each other more. Conservation week is important for people because those who don't have family's around the world can feel like their with family and friends. We would also spend time with each other helping the plants and animals survive and making sure we have animals and plant's to live with.

3 things young New Zealander's could do to help protect the plants, animals, and environment is that they can keep the earth clean they can feed the animals if they see them in a cold place and they could protect the plants if the water and stop pulling the plants apart. They could also make New Zealanders keep this earth a better place.

Science ' labeling and what they mean'

Salivary glandsThe salivary glands produce saliva, which keeps the mouth and other parts of the digestive system moist. It also helps break down carbohydrates.

Oesophagus - The part of the alimentary canal which connects the throat to the stomach. In humans and other vertebrates it is a muscular tube lined with mucous membrane.

Stomach - The stomach is a muscular organ located on the left side of the upper abdomen. The stomach secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. Ridges of muscle tissue called rugger line the stomach
Pancreas - The pancreas produces the hormone insulin and secretes it into the bloodstream, where it regulates the body's glucose or sugar level.

Small intestine - The small intestine is the part of the intestines where 90% of the digestion and absorption of food occurs, the other 10% taking place in the stomach and large intestine. The main function of the small intestine is absorption of nutrients and minerals from food. Digestion involves two distinct parts.

Liver - The liver is a large, meaty organ that sits on the right side of the belly. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs. As it does so, the liver secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines. The liver also makes proteins important for blood clotting and other functions.

Gall Bladder - Your gallbladder is a four-inch, pear-shaped organ. It's positioned under your liver in the upper-right section of your abdomen. The gallbladder stores bile, a combination of fluids, fat, and cholesterol. Bile helps break down fat from food in your intestine. The gallbladder delivers bile into the small intestine.

Bile Duct -  The bile ducts carry bile from the liver and gallbladder through the pancreas to the duodenum, which is a part of the small intestine.

Large Intestine - The large intestine is the final section of the gastrointestinal tract that performs the vital task of absorbing water and vitamins while converting digested food into feces.

Appendix - Normally, the appendix sits in the lower right abdomen. The function of the appendix is unknown. One theory is that the appendix acts as a storehouse for good bacteria, “rebooting” the digestive system after diarrhea illnesses.

Rectum - The rectum is a part of the lower gastrointestinal tract. The rectum is a continuation of the sigmoid colon, and connects to the anus

Anus - The anus is the opening where the gastrointestinal tract ends and exits the body. The anus starts at the bottom of the rectum, the last portion of the colon (large intestine). Glands release fluid into the anus to keep its surface moist.

Social Studies 'What Is Money?'

Today in Social Studies We got asked 'What is Money?' and to me it means someone who owns it. I also have made a mindmup to tell you what I personally think what money is, what it's uses are, and how it has changed over time. Finally we got told to write 2-3 sentences of what I have learnt about while I have been doing my work. What I learnt about is that money is what we use to live off because if we don't have money we will not be able to live under a roof and not be able to come to school and learn new things that we've been given to do.

English How is colour used to create the two worlds?

Brain Storm
Colour Palette - the colours used in the scene
Atmosphere - how you feel in a situation
Mood

Theme:
looks can be deceiving
courage & Bravery

A. Real world - Study room
- cold natural lights
- Gray, white, dull, blue - predominant - most obvious colours
- feels cold, large, lonely, boring, cluttered, old, cramped, dark
director - shows that Coraline is unhappy there.
shows us that the real father is too busy to spend time with Coralne.

B. Other world - study room
- Colours - yellow, vibrant, red, orange,
- orange, artificial, warm light.
- feels - happy, safe, warm, welcoming, clean, perfect.
- director - Coraline is happy there. Shows us the other father wants to spend time with Coraline.

Paragraph
Colour is effective in helping to create the too worlds and show the theme 'looks can be deceiving! The real world study uses a colour palette predominantly of greys, whites, and blues. This creates a cold, lonely, and boring atmosphere. The director did this to show that Coraline is unhappy in the real world and that her real father is to busy to spend time with her. The use of a cold natural light re-enforces this mood. Juxtaposed to this is the use of colour in the other world study. Vibrant reds, oranges and yellows make the room feel warm, safe and cosy. Selick used this palette to show that Coraline is happier in the other world where the other father has time for her.  This shows that 'looks can be deceiving because Coraline mistakes the bright perfect world for a safe place when really it is a trap for Coraline.

Horror Camp Story

I and my three closest friends (Fia, Gedd, and Sabby), decide to go camping. We arrived and set up camp nearly three miles away from where we left my car. Late that evening, as we sat around the campfire roasting marshmallows, one of my friends reveals a deep dark secret that turns what was to be a fun weekend into one of the scariest weekends of my life.

The story starts when our friend Gedd made a group chat with Fia, Sabby, and I. I didn’t get the message until the morning because I fell asleep early. The message that Gedd sent us was If “we would like to go camping on the abandoned grounds for the weekend?” I looked at what the other two wrote and saw Sabby say he’s “keen to go” and Fia said “no at first because she didn’t like anything to do with horror and abandoned things around her.

After she said that Gedd and Sabby tried to convince her because they wanted the whole group of friends going. Fia finally agreed to go but she said she’ll wait for me (Si) to see what I think of her going. As soon as I saw it, I said I would love all of us to go but it’s really Fia’s choice if she wanted to go. Before I said that Ima free for the weekend.

After awhile Sabby, Fia, and Gedd saw what I wrote and we all agreed to go. Gedd quickly texted back to everyone if we wanted to go shopping with her to buy the things we needed for the camp. We all replied with “YES” Gedd said lets meet at the old picnic table we always went to when we were kids. Gabby asked me for a ride because his parents took his car for work. We all got ready and arrived at the same time. Gedd and Fia arrived in the same vehicle and Sabby and I arrived in the same vehicle. Gedd and Fia were the closest to each other as the same for me and Sabby.

We all went into the mall and got everything we needed. We all got the same things. We got a torch, 1 big family tent, 4 sleeping bags, food, a pot, a lot of matches and a whole heap of things. We had 2 days to pack everything else we needed. While we were buying our things the person at the counter asked us where we are going camping, Gedd quickly answered “were going to the abandoned place” The counter replied with “are you sure you wanna go there?” We all said there’s nothing to be worried about because we know there ain’t no ghosts that live.

The Merchant Of Venice

English

In English, we are working on a book/play called The Merchant of Venice. We are currently reading through Act One, Scene One and I am Gratino, he is full of himself most the time and it's hard to find his point in things. Also, Shakespeare is really confusing to read so we have a translator which changes it into what we would say today.

Act One, Scene One
-Antonio is depressed without knowing why. What two possible reasons do his friends suggest?
a. He's in love
b.His boats are out to get him the money he borrowed. He's worried about his ships and if they sink he is a poor man.

-Do you think Gratiano contributions help Antonio's mood?
a. Sort of but not because he was saying suck it up

-What are your first impressions of Bassanio?

a. Wanting to be a good friend
b.. Is poor
c. He parties with the money he doesn't have
d. He's in love

-Is he in love?
a. He thinks

-Why does he need to borrow money again now?

a. He needs more money to impress the girl

Act One, Scene Two
-How do Portia's first words compare with Antonio's?

a. They are both sad/unhappy

-What was the reason for her mood?

a. Because she didn't get the choice on who she will marry.

-Do you think Nerissa is a help to her?

a.Yes because she remembered Bassanio, which she liked.

-Sum up, in a word or a short phrase, Portia's attitude to her suitors so far...

a. She is unhappy because she doesn't get to choose her men.

Act One, Scene Three
-Shylock is a moneylender. Does he seem eager to do business with Bassanio? How do you know?

a. He does not, in my opinion, it's just the way it is read and worded he doesn't seem too eager.

-Which does Shylock think is safe, his business or Antonio's? Why?

a. I say Antonio's because he has his hopes up he will get his money back.

-What strict principal of his is Antonio breaking to help Bassanio?

a. Never lend money or borrow it.

-Shylock tells a bible story to prove that the taking of profit is blessed, as long as thieving is not involved. Does he convince Antonio? Give Evidence...a. No, because Antonio basically just burned him!

-Shylock accuses Antonio of a whole catalogue of nastiness. How does Antonio answer the chargers?

a. Antonio admits and says he has done it once before.

-How does Bassanio react to the proposed bond?

a. He hates hit and thinks that the bond is stupid.
Image result for merchant character web

Act Two, Scene One
-We have watched racial and religious tensions at work in A1S3. The Prince Of Morocco opens A2S1 with another sensitive issue. What is it?

a. To not judge him by his skin colour.

-If Antonio loses his gamble, he must forfeit a pound of flesh. What must Portia's suitors give up if they fail to win her?

a.That if they choose incorrectly they must never talk about marriage to any woman again.

-Shylock practices 'usury'. What is it?

a. Usury means lending a high amount of money in interest to others.

-Why do Shylock and Antonio hate each other?

a. Shylock hates Antonio because he's a Christian and that he charges no interest on his loans.

-What is Portia's opinion of the Prince Of Morocco- give examples.a. She doesn't seem to dislike The Prince Of Morocco because of the words she says.
b. His skin color doesn't mind her, the reason why is she states that she wouldn't have held his skin color against him if she had married him.

Act Two, Scene Two
-Why does Launcelot want to leave Shylock? Copy out 2 quotes from the text to support your thinking. E.g A2S2 (act 2, scene two) line 26, 102a. He says that he doesn't get fed
b. Launcelot says Shylock is a Jew Devil.

-Why is Bassanio worried about taking Gratiano with him to Belmont?

a. Because Gratiano is a party animal and if he gets drunk and does stupid things it's going to make Bassanio look bad in front of Portia.

a.frequent interruptions
b.contradictions
c.misuse of words to impress.
Find examples of these in the text...
a.When Launcelot's father (Gobbo) starts saying "Here's my son sir, a poor boy-" Launcelot cuts him off and tries to make it more horrible so every sentence Gobbo says he always gets cut off.
b. This is because Launcelot always says "As my father shall specify-"
c.Again Launcelot always cuts his dad off and gives him ideas so his dad can tell Bassiano how good Launcelot is.
