Therefore, the reader is shocked to discover Antonio and Shylock can come to an agreement about money lending. It is also shocking because when Shylock calls Antonio out for the way he teats him, Antonio tells Shylock that he will spit on him and call him a dog again. This treatment is not unusual among people who make arguments.

The reader was shocked when the reader read this part because of Antonio and Bassanio a really good friends in reality but who would put their lives in sacrifice for his best friend.
Antonio was willing to die for Bassanio because of Antonio new that he could pay back the money on the day of the bond with his money on his ships. Antonio was confident because he thought nothing bad would happen while Antonio's ships were sailing around the world. Bassanio neede money from Antonio but Antonio had no money on him so he made a bond with Shylock saying he will pay him back and if he doesn't have the money he will offer a pound of flesh.
